In light of the recent tragic incident resulting in the loss of three precious lives due to inadequately designed road humps, the ongoing debate on road safety measures is crucial.

While discussions on this matter are welcome, it is essential to address the accountability of engineers involved in installing road humps without adhering to proper safety measures such as painting, height/width specifications and adequate signboards.

To prevent such accidents, a more proactive approach could involve the installation of CCTV cameras to monitor and penalise over-speeding vehicles. This approach not only serves as an effective deterrent but also focuses on the root cause of accidents.

Additionally, the Traffic Police could consider redirecting attention towards enforcing fines for violations that pose a significant risk to road safety. Prioritising actions against mirror-less bikers, vehicles without number plates (potentially engaged in criminal activities), over-speeding, wrong-side driving, high beams in city driving, manoeuvring from the wrong lane in signals and signal jumping can contribute significantly to making roads safer.

Apart from concentrating on helmet-less bikers, addressing these violations will enhance overall road safety by penalising behaviours that directly endanger the lives of others on the road. I hope that senior officials in the Traffic Police Department will take these suggestions seriously and work towards creating a safer environment on Mysuru roads.
