Save Chamundi Hill from developmental destruction: Chamundi Betta Ulisi Samithi to hold round table meeting with experts on Apr. 3

March 31, 2022

Mysore/Mysuru: The Chamundi Betta Samithi, which is spearheading a campaign against the developmental destruction such as the proposed ropeway atop the Hill and railings to the steps from the foot of the Hill, will be holding a round table meeting with various experts to deliberate on the issue. The meeting with various experts will be held between 10 am and 2.30 pm at JSS Women’s College auditorium in Saraswathipuram here on Apr. 3.

Announcing this at a press meet at Pathrakartara Bhavan this morning, Parisara Balaga Founder-Member Parashuramegowda said that wildlife photographer and documentary maker Krupakar, Heritage expert Prof. N. Rangaraju, Geologist Prof. Janardhan, Environmentalist A. Shivaprakash Adavanne, Structural Engineer Maj. Gen. (retd.) S.G. Vombatkere and Water expert Prof. U.N. Ravikumar will be present and speak at the meeting.

Environmentalists Nagesh Hegde, Shashidhar Shetty and activist and writer Rupa Hassan will address the meeting virtually, Parashuramegowda said and added that various environmental activists, organisations and individuals will also be taking part in the meeting.

Continuing, he said that the proposed ropeway, railings to the steps projects and construction of buildings atop Chamundi Hill, to be taken up under Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) scheme, will no way help in the development but in fact would destroy the Hill and added that many experts have expressed shock over the proposed developmental projects.

“Chamundi Betta Ulisi Samithi, which held signature campaigns against the proposed projects, had collected over 50,000 signatures, which would be digitalised and sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai soon,” Parashuramegowda said.

Former Mayor B.L. Bhyrappa, who spoke, said that a few youths and organisations, who had welcomed the proposed projects are now opposing the same after they read various articles by experts in newspapers which said that the so called developmental works would indeed cause destruction of the Hill.

Speaking about landslips atop the Hill, Bhyrappa said that according to experts, the landslips occurred due to pressure atop the Hill as huge constructions have been taken up atop the Hill. Stating that Chamundi Hill should be protected and preserved for our future generations, Bhyrappa called upon Mysureans to oppose any developmental works that would harm Chamundi Hill.

Leela Shivakumar of Clean Mysuru, who too spoke, said: “We are only speaking about development without taking clean environment into consideration. The importance of oxygen came to be known only during the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, where many died due to lack of oxygen. Hence it is the responsibility of every Mysurean to protect Chamundi Hill from getting destroyed.”

Parisara Balaga Members Prabha Nandeesh, Venkateshiah and Bhugathagalli Javarappa were present.

  1. Questo says:

What plans do these fossilised humans have otherwise, to protect the Chamundi Hill geographical structure , as its road takes massive pounding with masses of vehicles large and small destined to the top of the Hill, when the population of Mysore becomes doubled within a decade, with the 10-lane highway, the expanded Mysore airport, the fast trains to Chennai, the Hassan-Kodagu-Kerala highway, and [possibly the Wayanad -Mysore highway, all becoming fully operational, and dumping more and more Keralites and Tamils to settle in ever expanding Mysore city, as well as massive increase of tourists too? All these new settlers plus the tourists plus the already settled inhabitants all want to visit the Hilltop and most of them to the Temple too, on every auspicious occasion-there are many in the Hindu Calendar per year! The Chamundi Hill destruction will be complete, without even the Rope Way construction!
Maj. Gen. (retd.) S.G. Vombatkere, a pompous ass, is like his other colleagues in the delusional but self-centred Grahachara crowd (MGP) is a poacher-cum-game keepers, meaning that he like Mr Ganapathy , Barmy Shenoy and Ballal , the arm chair eco-howlers ,arrived in the mass influx of non-Mysoreans a few decades ago, building their houses forcing the forest clearance around the old Mysore city and extending the old perimeters of the city by many miles up to Srirangapatna in one direction and half-way to the Nilgiri Hills in the other!

  2. Kawakawaffoxgowda says:

To highlight the necessity of atmospheric oxygen by keeping the Chamundi Hill preserved by comparing it with the lack of oxygen supllies in the Pandemic last year is an observation coming out of the mouth of a demented fool, in this useless congregation of self-centred wicked men, most of who have their cars too, and use them to drive up the Chamundi Hill contributing the landslides which occur so frequently.
These fools,do not know the difference betweeen atmospheric oxygen needed for normal lungs and the kind of pressurised oxygen needed for the Covid-19 affected lungs!

  3. Mann Ki Baat! Bisi Bele Baat! says:

This person in this demented crowd who compares the supply of oxygen in the atmosphere through maintaining the eco system balance to the lack of oxygen supplies for the Covid-19 patients last year, has no brain cells to understand, the difference between the nature of oxygen needed for health lungs with that needed for Covid -affected malfunctioning lungs!
A crowd of self-serving low lives indeed! So, what is their solution, besdies opposing the Rope Way, when the city’s population is expanding so fast, and the Hill receives many times the vistors/devotees from Myosre city per day, in cars, than those tourists from outside the city. It is not merely the development on the Hill which is destroying the Hill, but the large earth slides as the Hill road is stressed by the massive vehicular traffic .
