A master plan to pull out thorn in the flesh

  • H.D. Deve Gowda proposes Sumalatha’s candidacy from Mysuru-Kodagu instead of Mandya
  • D.K. Shivakumar given responsibility of convincing Sumalatha to make things easy for Nikhil

Bengaluru: For the family of former PM H.D. Deve Gowda that has introduced Nikhil Kumaraswamy into active politics from Mandya LS seat, Sumalatha has become a thorn in the flesh.

Indications of Mandya electorate rallying behind Sumalatha due to sympathy wave caused by the demise of her hugely popular husband, Ambarish has given sleepless nights to the family and Mandya JD(S) leaders and elected representatives who have been given the responsibility of ensuring Nikhil’s victory.

And to control the situation in Mandya, Deve Gowda is said to have suggested to the Congress high command to field Sumalatha from Mysuru-Kodagu seat. The JD(S) is said to have told Congress that caste combination of Vokkaliga-Kuruba-minority and Dalits will work in favour of Sumalatha while no other Congress candidate could garner such support and consolidate votes in their favour.

But Congress Legislature Party leader Siddharamaiah, who managed to retain Mysuru with the party, has suggested former MP C.H. Vijayashankar’s name as the candidate and Siddharamaiah is opposed to Sumalatha’s candidature from Mysuru.

Deve Gowda and in-charge of Congress party affairs in the State, K.C. Venugopal, held a meeting to put an end to this imbroglio. They have come out with a solution which they feel will work. They have decided to issue a ticket to Sumalatha to contest from Mysuru.

Sources said that Minister D.K. Shivakumar has been assigned by the Congress high command to hold talks with Sumalatha to convince her to move to Mysuru. The party is also said to be considering fielding her from Bengaluru South where it is finding no takers.

Siddharamaiah is, however, blocking Sumalatha’s candidature from Mysuru due to his rivalry with Ambarish in the past as Siddharamaiah, when he held power, had dropped Ambarish from his Cabinet. Siddharamaiah wants Vijayashankar to contest and the latter is confident of winning Mysuru-Kodagu as he had become the MP twice. In all probability, Mandya is likely to witness a straight fight between Nikhil and Sumalatha if the latter decides to contest as an Independent. BJP is unlikely to field its candidate and could throw its weight behind Sumalatha.

BJP hopes to consolidate votes in favour of Sumalatha to shatter Kumaraswamy’s plans to send his son Nikhil to LS. Also, it is an open secret that Mandya Congress leaders headed by former Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy are backing Sumalatha. Cheluvarayaswamy was in JD(S) earlier and he is Kumaraswamy’s rival now.

SOM is back to what it is good at. This is just a street side speculation which gets main headlines only in SOM.
By any chance if this happens then same bhakts who are saying Jai Sumakka will change their narrative and start spreading hate.
    God bless India.

Ambarish had always kept personal and public life apart. Dint mix it any time. He had different set of friends in both.
Sumalatha always wanted to come to Politics (may be to be the likes of hema Malini, Jaya prada, Jaya Bachhan) which Ambarish never allowed. She even dresses up in same manner if u observe carefully.
In Last assembly elections she was very keen to contest on a BJP ticket but Ambarish dint allow it to happen.
Now when Ambarish is no more, its so easy for Sumalatha. If she was so concerned towards Mandya; why cant she show interest to make Abishekh contest election? He can realistically turn up a being good leader in the long run.
Mark my words, though I hate Nikhil contesting in mandya; its going to be JDS win.
Though JDS administration is generally good, all gets washed up when they do this non sense of brining their family members in elections. They have done in th epast and doing it much more in present

  3. HD Devegowda’s family is shedding tears for a last laugh after grabbing power playing on the sentiments of the gullible public.

Gowda family cried in unison as Prajwal was declared candidate for Hassan Lok Sabha seat.

Former PM H.D.Deve Gowda, his grandson Prajwal Revanna were in tears at Mudalahippe after the latter was declared as the party candidate for Hassan seat. PWD MinisterH.D.Revanna was also seen wiping his tears on the same dais.

BJP mocked it as an yet another ‘drama’ asformer Prime Minister sought people’s blessings for his grandson.

Top men in the Janata Dal (Secular) are not particularly famous for fighting against gender stereotypes, but they never shy away from shedding tears in public, which “real men” are not supposed to do as hidebound traditions go.

Public show of emotion was at an all-time high on Wednesday, with tears rolling down the cheeks of three generations of leaders — party supremo H.D. Deve Gowda, his son and Public Works Minister H.D. Revanna, and grandson Prajwal Revanna. Videos of this scene were shared widely on social media and the Opposition BJP mocked this as “drama”.

    ‘Bless my grandson’
As the former Prime Minister sought people’s blessings for his grandson in the Lok Sabha polls, tears rolled down the cheeks of the third-generation leader of the party. Mr. Revanna was seen wiping his tears. By then, Mr. Gowda was already in tears, recalling his career as a politician.
Earlier, MLA for Shravanabelgola C.N. Balakrishna also wept at the programme. Mr. Balakrishna said he could not control his emotions the day when Mr. Gowda said it would be his last speech in Parliament on the last day of the budget session.
Mocking this, the BJP said in a tweet soon after, “If crying was an art, Sri. H D Devegowda and his family would hold the record for mastering the Art of Crying to constantly fool people for decades. Matter of the fact is before elections Devegowda & his family cries. After elections people who vote this family cries.”
Ironically after chewing more grass than it can digest the HDD family is desperately trying to salvage Nikhil’s patently dim prospects to become an MP by plotting the ouster of Sumalatha from the electoral contest. To make matters worse he himself has to search a safe seat after bequeathing Hassan seat to his grandson as if it is his family property. His earlier defeat to Tejaswini Gowda has already begun to haunt him.

  4. @Chkravarthy, i am in no way trying to criticize your comment. All i am saying is judge these politicians based on what they have contributed to the welfare of the citizens, and not on the amount of tears they can shed!

  5. ankeatas says:

When people who is not able to talk , nor walk is trying to enter politics. There is nothing wrong in Sumalatha entering politics, what is wrong in dressing up like other celebrities, pehaps taking as rolemodel. she is still energetic, she can bring new ideas. May be next term she might insist Abishek to politics, at the moment let me get succuss with his all upcoming projects.

  6. For India and Karnataka to progress, two things need to happen. Retirement of Sonia family from politics at the center, and the retirement of Deve Gowda family from politics in Karnataka!
