Indian politicians tend to become haughty and arrogant when they get access to political power.They begin to concentrate on self aggrandizement forgetting and moving away from the hapless voters who have empowered them in good faith only to serve them.But here is an unusual and redeeming spectacle of a Cabinet minister of Karnataka prostating before the people in Kollegal near Mysuru for empowering him. Mr.N.Mahesh, Karnataka’s Minister for Primary and secondary education became emotional and literally prostated before the people at a felicitation function in Kollegal conveying his deep gratitude to the voters for making him an M.L.A and now a Cabinet minister. He took pains to narrate his humble background of being a son of a bonded labourer namely Mr.Kulla Nanjaiah which has changed for the good thanks to the people.He has also reiterated his firm resolve to sincerely serve the people throughout his life so as to repay their debt. Interestingly Minister N.Mahesh who has been elected from the Kollegal assembly constituency is the lone MLA from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) with which the now ruling JD(S) had struck an electoral understanding just before the recent Karnataka assembly elections. Let us hope that our new Cabinet Minister Mr.N.Mahesh who has entered Karnataka politics like a whiff of fresh air for a change does not start learning the tricks to demean the people from among the many many honourable men around him.
