SDPI takes strong objection

Mysore/Mysuru: Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) State President Abdul Majeed has taken strong objection to the shooting of an obscene song for the Kannada film ‘Namo Bhootatma-2’ near Tipu Tomb at Gumbaz in Srirangapatna.

Addressing a press meet at SDPI Office in city yesterday, he said that the Gumbaz is a sacred place for Muslims and it was wrong on the part of Tipu Sultan Waqf Estate Committee and State Waqf Board to give permission for shooting.

“The Committee, which is the custodian of the Gumbaz, should have explained the sanctity of the place to Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which had given permission for shooting,” he noted.

He demanded the resignation of MLA Tanveer Sait, who is also the Chairman of Tipu Sultan Waqf Estate Committee, on moral grounds.

Stating that the film was released some time ago and the issue came to light lately, he said that he would complain in this regard to the Chief Minister, Waqf Minister and Waqf Board.

SDPI District President Rafath Khan, Vice-President and former Corporator S. Swamy, General Secretary Safiullah and Secretary Fardeen Ahmed were present at the press meet.
