CMR University hosted its CMRUT20 Cricket Tournament for Men in collaboration with the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).

The event, which took place from Feb. 10 to 16, showcased the sporting prowess of 16 Universities from across the State, vying for the prestigious title.

University of Mysore (UoM) won the final of CMRUT20 against PES University by 57 runs.

PES University advanced to the final by defeating Dayananda Sagar University, St. Joseph’s, and CMRU. University of Mysore reached the final by overcoming Presidency, CMRIT and Reva Universities.

The valedictory ceremony, held at the CMRU Cricket Pavilion, Lakeside Campus in Bagalur, Bengaluru, was attended by Dodda Ganesh, former Indian Cricketer, as the chief guest.

Joining him were notable personalities such as Dr. K.C. Ramamurthy, IPS (retd.), former Member of Parliament and Chairman of CMR University, along with Dr. N.V. Subba Reddy, Pro Vice-Chancellor, CMR University and Dr. R. Praveen, Registrar.

Addressing the gathering, Ganesh emphasised the significance of sportsmanship and cricket in India, commending CMR University for its state-of-the-art Cricket Stadium, capable of hosting various national and international matches. He congratulated all participants and winners for their exemplary performance.

Recently a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between CMR University and KSCA, further strengthening their collaboration. Under this agreement, KSCA will utilise the ground for its matches for 15 days each month, while CMR University and CMR Group of Institution students will have access for their matches on the remaining days.

Dr. Ramamurthy underscored the commitment to holding the CMRU T20 Tournament on a yearly basis, aimed at fostering the development of more cricketers to represent the country.

The CMRU Cricket Pavilion, designed by renowned architect Sanjay Mohe, stands as a marvel of architectural brilliance, blending functionality, comfort, and aesthetics seamlessly. With aspirations to become a premier cricketing venue in Bengaluru, the Stadium is poised to host matches at both national and international levels.

As a token of appreciation, the Tournament winners were presented with trophies, medals and cash prizes, with the champions receiving Rs. 25,000, the runners-up Rs. 15,000 and awards were distributed to the best batsman and best bowler of the Tournament.

Champions: University of Mysore; Runners-up: PES University; Best Batsman of the Tournament: B. Dheemanth – University of Mysore (209 Runs); Best Bowler of the Tournament: Thushar Singh – Reva University (8 Wickets).

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) XI won the one-day Friendly Cricket Tournament held at Firing Range Grounds at the foot of Chamundi Hill here recently.

The DC’s team defeated the City Police Commissioner’s (PC) team by 10 runs in the final match. The DC XI, which batted first after winning the toss, scored 128 runs for the loss of two wickets in the stipulated 10 overs. The Police Commissioner’s

XI, chasing a target of 129 runs to win, could muster only 119 runs for the loss of 4 wickets losing the match by 10 runs.

For the DC XI, Deputy Commissioner Dr. K.V. Rajendra, who scored 43 runs, was the highest run getter for his team. The Police Commissioner’s team, which was chasing an imposing target of 129 runs, began promisingly with openers Divakar and Vasudev scoring half centuries. But soon as the duo got out, the rest of the batsmen failed to keep up the tempo and the PC’s team slipped in the run chase, mustering only 119 runs in 10 overs.

The Superintendent of Police (SP) team bagged the third place and the Mysuru District Journalists Association (MDJA) team secured the fourth spot.

Earlier in the day, DC Dr. Rajendra and City Top Cop B. Ramesh inaugurated the Tourney at a simple ceremony. DCPs M. Muthuraj and S. Jhanavi, Addl. SP Dr. B.N. Nandini and other Police personnel were present.

Mysore/Mysuru: The Mysuru District Deaf Association (MDDA), in association with New Delhi’s All India Sports Council of the Deaf (AISCD), Karnataka Sports Federation of the Deaf (KSFD), Lions Club of Mysore Nisarga and Lions Club of Mysore Mayuri, has organised a week-long 6th National T-20 Men’s cricket tournament for the hearing impaired, from Sept.18 to 24 in city.

Announcing this at a press meet here yesterday, Lions Club of Mysore Nisarga President S. Murthy said that the tournament will take place at RBI Cricket grounds, Infosys Cricket grounds and NIET Cricket grounds here from Sept.18.

A total of 16 teams from 16 States of the country including Karnataka, will participate in the tournament. The winning team will get a cash prize of Rs. 25,000, runner-up – Rs. 15,000 and third place – Rs. 10,000.

The tournament will be inaugurated at AIISH Gymkhana premises, Bogadi Road, at 5.30 pm today (Sept. 17). Prize distribution will be held on Sept. 24 at 4.30 pm at Infosys.

The best players of this tournament will be selected for the Indian team which will be participating in the first World Deaf T20 Cricket Championship to be held from Jan. 10 to 20, 2023 at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

Mysuru: The RNTCP (Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme) team bagged the NTEP (National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme) winner’s cup at the  cricket tournament jointly organised by the Health Department and District TB Control Centre on the final day of the 3-day tournament held at J.K. Grounds here on Sunday.

A total of 16 teams had taken part in the tournament, which had begun on Apr. 15 with actor Srinagara Kitty inaugurating it by striking a ball with a bat. The tournament was organised in order to create public awareness on TB, with the theme ‘Identify all TB patients and treat them.’

The NTEP team bagged the cup and a cash prize of Rs. 20,000.  Mysuru DHO team came second, while K.R. Nagar team stood third. The tournament was held with six-over a side rule.

District TB Eradication Officer Dr. Siraj Ahmed and other officials were present.

Arnav Pathange and Denim Yadav beat Sam Chawla and Dhurv Tanngri 7-6 (3), 6-0 in the doubles semi-finals. In the quarter-finals, Arnav Pathange and denim beat Aman Adil Tezabwala and Neel Garud 6-1, 6-1 to enter the last four stage of the tourney.

Secretary’s XI gained the vital first innings lead in the drawn two-day Group ‘B’ league encounter against Mysore Zone in the KSCA Inter-Zonal U-14 cricket tournament match played at Kini Sports Grounds in Bengaluru on Monday and Tuesday respectively.

Batting first, Mysore Zone helped by useful knocks by captain M. Kanishk (91, 121b, 17×4), H. Amogh (33 n.o), Prajwal (30), Rajashekar (23) scored 250 in 89.5 overs.

Medium pacer Sartk Sharma impressed taking five for 25 for Secretary’s XI. In reply, Secretary’s XI scored 286 in 74.4 overs. K.P. Karthikeya top scored with 97 n.o.

Useful contributions came from Shivapratap Singh (52), Akash (30) and Abhrath (20).Ganapreeth (three for 27), S. Dhanush Gowda (three for 42), Prabhav sharma (two for 49), R. Raaj (one for 50) and Amogh (one for 59) were among the wicket for Mysore Zone.

In the second innings, Mysore Zone scored 88 for three in 15 overs. Skipper Kanishk remained not out on 56 (53b, 11×4). The match ended in a draw with Secretary’s XI gaining the first innings points.

Mysore Zone: 250 in 89.5 overs (Kanishk 91, Amogh 33 n.o, Prajwal 30, Rajashekar 23, Sarthak Sharma five for 25) and 88 for three in 15 overs (Kanishk 56 n.o) drew with Secretary’s XI 286 in 74.4 overs (Karthikeya 97 n.o, Shivpratap Singh 53, Akash 30, Abhirath 20, Ganapreeth three for 27, Dhanush Gowda three for 42, Prabhav Sharma two for 40).

A three-day T20 Cricket Tournament, jointly organised by Karnataka Cricket Association for the Blind (KCAB), Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) and Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled, will be held at JSS-KSCA Ground at SJCE campus from Nov.25.

The Mysuru-leg of the national-level T20 tournament will witness teams from Delhi, Haryana, Goa and Karnataka facing each other during the tournament.

The matches will be held in the following three categories: B1 (completely blind), B2 (partially blind) and B3 (partially sighted). An audible ball and hollow steel stumps will be used for the matches, as visually challenged can sense the direction of the ball, batting/ bowling and play accordingly.

After the league matches, the teams will be divided into two divisions (Elite and Plate) and four groups respectively of six teams each. The winning team will be awarded with a cash prize of Rs. One lakh while the runners-up will be awarded Rs.75,000 and the two losing semi-finalists will be awarded Rs.40,000 each.
